OUR HISTORY

Higher Ground Outreach Church was birthed on August 29, 1999 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was preordained of God. For whom God knew he also preordained to be conformed to the image of his son.

The first service was held at the Hilton Hotel in Baton Rouge. After believing in God for a more permanent location, God answered and showed favor. 2712 Wooddale Boulevard became the new home for Higher Ground for several years. The location featured two offices, a break room, and outside restrooms. The church began to acquire computers, desk, chairs, sound equipment, and drums. During this time, Sunday services were held at 3:00 in the afternoon.

As the ministry began to grow, more space was needed for our children’s ministry. The members began praying and believing God again for another location. As favor would have it, a local church had put their property up for lease at the same time and asked if Higher Ground was interested in acquiring the lease. 5373 Choctaw Drive became the new location and underwent major renovations to accommodate God’s people. Standing on the Word, Higher Ground believed for greater and began the “Build this House Campaign” without knowing the next step that God had in place for the ministry. Higher Ground was content but not settled here because we knew that this was not the last move that God had for us to make.

God moved Higher Ground to North Sherwood Forest where the ministry has remained for the past 6 years. The new facilities have allowed Higher Ground to grow several ministries especially the children’s ministry and outreach programs. Our history is still being written, as we still believe God for:

» A facility that is paid in full
» An elderly care facility
»
Sub-division for single mothers
» Pre-K – 12 school
